Build software and systems instead of hiring
Our mission is to make high-quality mental health support accessible to as many people as possible. That requires a model built for scale from the start.
Rather than allowing costs to rise with growth, we design our service to be efficient, consistent, and sustainable. We automate the operational parts of Spill wherever possible, using thoughtful processes and technology to run what doesn’t need human judgement. This approach means we can grow without passing rising costs on to customers.
In practice, this means:
The person closest to the problem chooses how to solve the problem
When building great systems and processes for people, you need to understand all of the details and nuanced context about the problem that people experience. You can only really build a good solution with that understanding.
At Spill, you get real autonomy to solve problems - in both surfacing new problems and building solutions for existing ones. It doesn’t make sense to have someone disconnected from the problem tell the builder how to solve it, so we give autonomy and accountability to the people who are closest to the user.
In practice, this means:
Hire people who are brave and take ownership
